Our Retirement Trip

We left City of Rocks State Park and headed to Usery Mountain Regional Park east of Phoenix on Apr 1. Our first stop in the Phoenix area was Taliesin West, the summer home of Frank Lloyd Wright. On the way back to the campground we stopped at fields of Mexican Poppies While in Phoenix we went to the Heard Museum, an excellent museum of Native American art, and visited the Pueblo Grande archeology site. Our final stop was the Japanese Friendship Garden in downtown Phoenix

Next stop was City of Rocks State Park in New Mexico.  We arrived on March 29.  City of Rocks is an unusual collection of 20’ to 40’ rocks in the middle of the plains of New Mexico.  Here is a picture of our campsite. On our first day we drove north out of the plains into the mountains of New Mexico to Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. We spent our second day at City of Rocks
