Kenai Fjords National Park (July 2024)

Ben and Grace joined us for our time at Seward, AK, and Kenai Fjords National Park.  We camped in a large camping area right on Resurrection Bay.  The campers were side by side and back to back but the view was fabulous.  We hiked to the Exit Glacier and toured Kenai Fjords by boat.  Plus we happened to be there on the 4th of July so we got to see the 11pm boat parade in the harbor, the midnight fireworks, and the annual Mount Marathon 5k, the toughest 5k on the planet (look it up).

On July 3, Ben and I hiked up to the Harding Icefield, the icefield at the top of all the glaciers in Kenai Fjords National Park.  Grace joined us for the bottom third of the hike.  8.2 miles total with 4000’ elevation gain.  You’ll see more photos of the Exit Glacier as the hike went up alongside the glacier.

On the evening of July 3rd we watched the 11pm boat parade and the midnight fireworks.

Kenai Fjords Tour

After dropping Ben and Grace at the Anchorage Airport for their very long flight back to Boston, we visited the Alaska Native Heritage Center.

Next stop is Denali State and National Parks.
