Hearst San Simeon State Park

We headed to Hearst San Simeon State Park on April 30.  We got there in time to head up the coast a bit to see the elephant seals.

On Monday we toured Hearst Castle.  Unfortunately you had to ride a bus from the visitor center up a 5 mile winding road to the castle which just about did Donna Sue in.  She recovered, but she decided not to ride up again in the afternoon for the second tour we had booked.


Tuesday and Wednesday were cold and rainy and Donna Sue wasn’t feeling well, so we hung around the campground.

On Thursday we drove south down the coast to Montano de Oro State Park and Morro Rock.

On Friday we visited three of the many wineries in Paso Robles.

On Saturday morning we drove up the coast to Ragged Point for breakfast, then back to the campground to pack up and head to our next destination, Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park.

Our next stop was Chippokes Plantation State Park on the James River in Virginia.  Spent two days at Colonial Williamsburg and one at Berkeley Plantation. Temps were in the high 90's so we explored at a very slow pace. Thank goodness we had electricity at the campground so we could use the AC on the camper. Traveling South Through British Columbia

It’s been awhile since my last post for Dawson City in the Yukon Territories.  We’ve covered quite a bit of ground since then.  We are currently sitting on the shores of Lake Superior at the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in the upper peninsula of Michigan. After leaving Dawson City we spent five days traveling south to Stewart, BC, with stops at Pelly River Crossing, Whitehorse, Boya Lake Provincial Park, and Kinaskin Lake Provincial Provincial Park.  We spent three nights in Stewart, BC, hoping to see bears feeding on salmon at the wildlife viewing station just across the border in Hyder, AK.  We saw a few bears and a few salmon but unfortunately we were a little early in the season.  We did drive up to the Salmon Glacier which is the largest glacier in Canada that can be viewed by car. Pinnacles National Park

We moved to Pinnacles National Park on Friday, May 12.  The weather on the coast was in the 60’s and cloudy.  The weather at Pinnacles was in the 90’s and sunny.  Quite a change. See On Sunday we got up early and did an 8 mile hike on the South Wilderness Trail. We had a pet squirrel at our campsite.  We would sit out in the shade and he would come out and roll around in the dirt in front of us. On Monday we took a long drive to Sacramento to see a dentist about an implant for Donna Sue.  They said they could do it and had availability the next morning so we spent and unplanned night at a hotel in Sacramento.  Went to Sutter’s Fort in the afternoon and Old Sacramento in the evening. Donna Sue spent Wednesday recovering at the campground.  I got up early (still really hot in the afternoons) and hiked through the high peaks at Pinnacles National Park.
