Grand Teton

We arrived in Grand Teton National Park on Thursday, August 4. Rained all day on Friday so we just hung around the campsite, which was fine since we had good cell service at the campground. Rained on Saturday so we headed to Jackson to see a movie. Unfortunately, everybody else had the same idea so the movie was sold out. Did some shopping and had a late lunch at a brewery. On Sunday we wanted to hike to Leigh Lake but the parking lot was full at 11. So we headed to Jackson for a bit more shopping and return to Leigh Lake at 4. Here are some pictures from Leigh Lake and String Lake. On Monday we got up early and headed to Jenny Lake to make sure we got parking. Hiked to Moose Ponds and were rewarded with and moose cow and her calf. Spent the afternoon on the shore of Jenny Lake enjoying the view. On Tuesday we did two short hikes at Jenny Lake the a16 mile bike ride with wonderful views. On Wednesday we took the boat across Jenny Lake then hiked to Hidden Falls, Inspiration Point and C

We left the Black Hills on July 32 headed for Devil's Tower. Spent the night at the Devil's Tower Campground. After Devil's Tower, we moved on to Buffalo Bill State Park.  Lovely site next to the north fork of the Shoshone River.  While there were visited the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, an excellent museum with five museums: the Buffalo Bill Museum, Plains Indian Museum, Cody Firearms Museum, Draper Natural History Museum, and the Whitney Western Art Museum. We visited all but the firearms museum and had an excellent time. An actual bison hide tipi

We arrived at Sheridan Lake on Monday evening, July 25.  On Tuesday, we spent the morning at the library in Hill City, then took the Needles Highway to Custer State Park, where we stopped at the visitor center and drive the wildlife loop. Found lots of bison. On Wednesday we went to Lead and Deadwood. In Lead we visited the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center. The Homestake Mine is a huge underground gold mine with shafts up to a mile deep. It is no longer used for mining but several of the underground tunnels are now used for the study of neutrinos. Then we went to Deadwood, which was a bit disappointing. Mostly casinos. We did spend the evening at the Days of 76 Rodeo which was a lot of fun. On Thursday we went to the Crazy Horse Memorial. Then back to Custer State Park for a Buffalo Safari and a chick wagon cookout. Friday we drove to Sylvan Lake where Donna Sue and I hiked around the lake and I tacked on the Sunday Gulch Trail. After that we drove by Mount Rushmore and up and down
